BALLINROBE Musical Society received one nomination from the adjudicating body Association of Irish Musical Society’s for its production of My Fair Lady.
The musical received rave reviews and was a sell out earlier this year at Ballinrobe Community School and was nominated in the Best Technical (lighting, sets and sound) category under the Gilbert Section.
Since entering the prestigious section in 2006, the society has received a nomination every year, bar one.
Speaking about the nomination, society chairperson Des Treacy said the society was ‘delighted’.
“We’re delighted for the lads who worked so hard on building the set since last October. Dave Nevin did a brilliant job designing the set and put so much work into it,” said Treacy.
The chairperson also commended Niamh Lally who was in charge of costumes which comes under the Best Technical category, and paid thanks to outgoing stage manager John O’Shea for his dedication and commitment in the role.
“Other than last year which had a minimal stage we’ve got a nomination every year he has been in the role which is a phenomenal achievement,” added the chairperson.
Asked if the society was disappointed not to have received more nominations, Mr Treacy said sometimes it can be down to luck.
“On another year with this show we could get five nominations you just never know. There’s a lot of talent out there among musical societies nationwide.”
The society has already confirmed its production team for next year’s show, remaining with trio Peter Kennedy as director, Finola Higgins as musical director and Aoife McClafferty as choreographer.
“The traditional show really worked this year and people enjoyed it, but we’re also known for taking on big challenges, the committee still has to meet to discuss a possible show,” concluded the chairperson.
