Calleary appointed deputy leader of Fianna Fáil

Mayo TD Dara Calleary has been appointed as deputy leader of Fianna FΡil.
The Ballina man was promoted to the key role this morning following a reshuffle of the party’s front bench by leader MicheΡl Martin.
Calleary, a TD for Mayo since 2007, has also been appointed Director of Policy Development.
He’s a third generation TD, following in the footsteps of his father SeΡn and his grandfather Phelim.
“I am deeply honoured to have been promoted to the position of Deputy Leader of Fianna FΡil by MichΡel Martin this afternoon,” said Calleary.
“For eleven years I have been representing Fianna FΡil as an elected DΡil representative for Mayo, during which time I have always endeavoured to achieve the best I can for my constituents regardless of political affiliation.
There is much work to be done in the months and the years ahead. I look forward to holding the Fine Gael Government to account in the months ahead. I look forward to assisting in leading the Fianna FΡil assault on the next General Election, to returning two Fianna FΡil TDs for Mayo, to returning Fianna FΡil to Government under the Leadership of MichΡel Martin and to providing better outcomes and services for Mayo and The West for many years to come,” he added.
There is a promotion also for Calleary’s constituency colleague in Mayo, Lisa Chambers who has been appointed Spokesperson on Brexit, moving from Defence.
Jack Chambers has been promoted to the front bench to take up the Defence role vacated by his namesake Lisa Chambers.
The Dublin West TD has strong Mayo roots. His father Frank is from Newport while his mother is Barbara Farragher from Gardenfield, Hollymount (Garrymore). Aged 27, Chambers is the youngest TD in the current DΡil.
