THE 5th annual walk in support of the Róisín Tansey Trust Fund takes place on the Tóchar PhΡdraig this Saturday, July 1. The 22 mile sponsored walk from Ballintubber Abbey to Croagh Patrick (plus the Reek optional) is a fundraiser for Róisín’s ongoing physio and treatment.
Róisín is daughter of Breda and Damien Tansey from Killasser. Breda (nee Sheridan) hails from Cullane, Ballindine.
Now eight-years-old, Róisín has been receiving specialised treatment for the past four years. This has included treatment at Pediatric Neurorecovery in the Frazier Institute in Kentucky where she spent some months in 2015 and 2016.
She is a pupil at Carramore NS in the parish of Killasser where she has just completed First Class and will move into Second Class when school resumes in September. Róisín continues to make slow but steady progress and can operate a motor-chair through movements of her head.
Róisín loves to chat and has an excellent rapport with all she meets along the way. A well above average school report sees her in a good place when it comes to academic matters.
The walk on Saturday is organised by James Keane from Aughervilla, Claremorris. Anyone interested in taking on the challenge can contact James by phone/text on 087 9622946 as soon as possible as arrangements need to be made to transport people from the Reek back to Ballintubber after the walk. All support will be most welcome.
