Son dies hours after mother’s funeral in Meelick

The village of Meelick in east Mayo was in shock after local man dies just a few hours after burying his mother

TIM McDonagh from Laughtadurkan, Bohola, was busy last Thursday evening expressing thanks to people who attended the reposing ceremony for his mother Kathleen in Campbell’s Funeral Home in Swinford.
On Friday, Tim was present with other family members for her Requiem Mass at 12 noon in St Luke’s Church, Meelick, again joining in the words of thanks to their kind neighbours and friends.
It was with deep shock on Saturday morning that the people of the area learned that Tim had taken ill and died unexpectedly at his home during the night.
Tim, who was in is early 60s, resided at home with his mother Kathleen (nee Mulroy) who was in her mid-90s. He took care of her and also of the family farm and was well known around the general Bohola, Meelick and Swinford region. He had a general interest in sport, especially the GAA scene.
“Tim was an ordinary country man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was a good neighbour and there is widespread sadness in the area with the passing of Kathleen and Tim within days of each other,” said a local resident yesterday (Monday).
The removal ceremony for Tim took place from Campbell’s Funeral Home, Swinford, on Monday evening to Meelick church. Interment takes place today (Tuesday) in St Luke’s Cemetery, Meelick, following Requiem Mass at 12 noon.
He is survived by his brothers Seamus, Gerry and Joe, his sisters Margaret and Mary, the family circle, neighbours and friends.
