A Westport man will go on trial charged with the sale and supply of €16,000 worth of cannabis
A WESTPORT man will appear before the next sitting of Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court charged with the sale and supply of €16,000 worth of cannabis.
Patrick Pearse Coyle of 9, Lower Carrowbeg, Westport, appeared before last week’s sitting of Westport District Court where he was served with the book of evidence in relation to two drug charges.
Detective Sergeant Jim Caden served Mr Coyle with the book of evidence before the court in relation to the charges of the sale and supply of cannabis and the possession of cannabis at 9, Lower Carrowbeg, Westport on May 8, 2015. The allegation is that Mr Coyle was in possession of €16,000 worth of cannabis.
Mr Vincent Deane, State Solicitor, said his application was to return Coyle for trial at the next sittings of Castlebar Circuit Criminal Court on April 25, 2017. There was no objections to remanding Mr Coyle on bail on the condition he complies to conditions including surrendering his passport and signing on at Westport Garda Station.
When applying for legal aid, Gary Mulchrone, solicitor for Mr Coyle, said his client was not in receipt of any income or social welfare as he had recently returned from the UK.
When Mr Deane said he had no objection to legal aid and was satisfied he has no source of income, Judge Mary Devins asked if he was ‘living on fresh air’. When Mr Deane reassured Judge Devins that he was satisfied that Coyle’s business sense in what he was allegedly involved in was ‘not great’, she granted legal aid to Mr Mulchrone.
