Rapist to be charged with possession of child porn

A MAN who is currently serving a 15 year prison sentence for rape is to be charged with the possession of child porn.

A MAN who is currently serving a 15-year prison sentence for rape is to appear before Castlebar District Court in the New Year in connection with the possession of child porn.
The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is currently serving a 15-year sentence in the Midlands Prison after he was convicted of 23 counts of rape in the Central Criminal Court in June 2015.
Supt Joe McKenna told last week’s sitting of Castlebar District Court that during the course of that investigation, a computer was ceased that contained child-pornography material.
On November 2, 2016, he explained that the DPP directed that the man be charged with the possession of child pornography, and the Gardaí were applying for a body warrant to bring the defendant before the court to be served with a book of evidence.
Judge Mary Devins granted the body warrant for the man to appear before Castlebar District Court on January 4, 2017.
