A 20-year-old Sligo woman who passed away following a road traffic collision in Claremorris last Thursday has been laid to rest.
THE funeral took place yesterday (Monday) of Sligo woman Karen Powell, who passed away on Friday last following a fatal road traffic collision.
Ms Powell passed away in hospital on Friday as a result of her injuries. She was airlifted to University College Hospital Galway after the car she was driving on Thursday last was involved in a head on collision with a truck at Clare, Claremorris, on a slip road off the N17 road.
The accident, which claimed the life of Ms Powell from Cloosilla, Gurteen, Co Sligo, brings the total of fatalities on Mayo roads so far this year to 12. Ms Powell had been studying Applied Social Studies in GMIT, Castlebar.
Gardaí are still seeking assistance following the fatal road traffic accident and asking those who have not yet come forward to assist in their investigation.
Ms Powell was laid to rest on Monday afternoon in Gurteen Cemetery Funeral Mass in St Patrick’s Church, Gurteen.
