PLANNING permission for a new town hall in Ballinrobe has been delayed, as Mayo County Council requires further information.
A planning decision on the new town hall building proposed for The Neale Road in the town was expected on Monday, September 7.
However, Mayo County Council sought more information in relation to the building on September 4.
The multi-purpose building is to be made up of an auditorium, meeting rooms, a presentation area, a kitchen, changing rooms, a stage area and a balcony.
The town hall committee now has a period of six months in which to reply to Mayo County Council’s request.
Speaking to The Mayo News, chairman of the Ballinrobe Town Hall committee Michael Sweeney said the committee expected more information would be needed.
“We expected there might be some issues, but we’re confident we can deal with them. What is important is there was no objections to the planning. Now we are looking at the finance strategy in the next six weeks and how best to raise finances. It’s full steam ahead,” said Mr Sweeney.
Local Fianna FΡil councillor Damien Ryan said he was aware that the committee was anxious to get the project under way.
“The clarification to the council should be submitted quickly. I’m confident it would be looked upon favourably.
The town needs a community facility, and it’s critically important that the local authority supports it,” said Cllr Ryan.
