SINCE the Celtic Tiger crash they have been an extinct species but the welcome whirr of a helicopter was heard as it hovered over Westport on Sunday afternoon, before landing in the garden of four star B&B, Woodside Lodge, on the Newport Road.  
Speaking to The Mayo News last night, co-owner Patrice Goberville, from northern France, was laughing as he explained that his wife, Helen, had received a phone call from a young man asking if they had two rooms available on Sunday night. When she confirmed they had, he asked if Woodside Lodge had a big garden.
“Of course, there won’t be a problem parking your car,” she retorted.
“Oh! No we are coming by helicopter and we want to park it on your lawn.”
She laughed, thinking the man was joking, but his father rang back to confirm they were, indeed, travelling by helicopter. Some hours later the family of three touched down, causing some consternation and curiosity in the suburban area.
Time to pop open the champagne! Mais Oui. Il n’y a pas plus d’austérité pour certaines personnes.
