High performance on the agenda in Castlebar
Mike Finnerty
EVERYBODY from junior soccer and rugby coaches to GAA players to triathletes to casual joggers could learn a thing or two from a sports performance and injury seminar that’s being held in Castlebar on Thursday evening.
The brainchild of Martin McIntyre, the man behind the Sports Injuries and Sports Medicine (SISM) Clinic, the discussion will focus on ‘improving speed and performance, and reducing injuries’.
There will be both an individual and a team element to the evening’s events with Timmy McCarthy acting as MC, and former Mayo football boss James Horan, Galway hurler Cyril Donnellan and Mayo footballer Donie Vaughan the special guests who will be contributing.
Elsewhere in the sports section you can read about the difference that the SISM Clinic has made to Vaughan as he endeavours to find that extra ‘edge’ that every elite athlete craves in high-performance competition.
Martin McIntyre, a native of Belmullet, has built up an impressive reputation as both a top-class Strength & Conditioning coach and physio.
He has worked with both the Roscommon and Mayo senior football squads in recent years, and has now introduced the very successful ‘Running Team’ to his SISM Clinic.
This part of the operation is aimed at athletes that want to run faster, currently experience pain when they’re running, or have injury problems that just won’t clear up.
Using a revolutionary method of ‘speed training’, clients can have their running technique examined so as to improve their running speed, address injury issues, and maintain high levels of performance.
So if you want to get fitter, faster and stronger this year you could do a lot worse than pop along to the SISM Clinic, Moneen Industrial Estate, Castlebar at 7.30pm this Thursday evening. To book your place call (094) 90 20005 or e-mail martin@sism.ie.
