THREE well-known Mayo GAA club players who sustained serious injuries in a road accident near Balla ten days ago continue to make good and steady progress on the recovery trail. There were serious concerns for the wellbeing of two of the injured men in the immediate aftermath of the accident.
Martin Maloney from Crossboyne, a player who enjoyed a superb season with Garrymore, was in an induced coma for a number of days. Family and friends were thrilled when procedures were put in place to wean him out of it and Martin was speaking away to them from Thursday onwards. He will shortly make the trip from Mayo General Hospital to Dublin to have a special neck brace fitted.
Paul Carey from Ballindine, player of the year with Davitts senior team in 2013, has already been to Dublin and back where he was fitted with a neck brace. Paul has been chatting away to friends all week and is up and about and walking around in hospital.
SeΡmus Roche, another member of the Davitts team and who hails from Irishtown, incurred shoulder and facial injuries in the accident. He was transferred to Galway Hospital for further treatment, mainly in relation to the facial injuries. SeΡmus is understood to be making very good progress.
News that all three are on course for a full recovery has come as a huge relief to their families and many friends throughout the region. The families of all three have expressed their grateful appreciation for the huge amount of phone calls, texts, cards and goodwill messages that they have received in the aftermath of the accident.
