Archbishop Tutu blesses The Mary Robinson Centre ahead of its inaugural international human rights lecture this Friday
Tutu blesses Mary Robinson Centre event from afar
Keeping a promise made last year when his visit to Ballina was cancelled due to illness, Archbishop Desmond Tutu gave his blessing to The Mary Robinson Centre and its work at a recent event held in Cape Town to celebrate his 83rd birthday.
The event, which was saw former President of Ireland Mary Robinson share the stage with the popular archbishop, was streamed live to an enthusiastic audience at Ballina Arts Centre on Tuesday last, October 7. Mary Robinson was guest speaker at event, during which she delivered the Fourth Annual Desmond Tutu International Peace Lecture.
In his blessing, Archbishop Tutu prayed that The Mary Robinson Centre and its work would be a source of inspiration and empowerment for all.
Scheduled to open in early 2016, The Mary Robinson Centre, Ireland’s first Presidential Archive, will house a museum and educational facility fostering research, study and a vital dialogue on gender equality and women’s empowerment.
This Friday, October 17, Professor Muhammad Yunus will deliver the first international human rights lecture of The Mary Robinson Centre at Mount Falcon Country Estate at 2.30pm. This will be followed by a questions and answers session with Professor Yunus and Mary Robinson.
Fresh from their work with young social entrepreneurs at the One Young World Summit in Dublin, Yunus will use the occasion of International Day for the Eradication of Poverty to speak about how to create a world without poverty from the grassroots level, with a particular focus on women as agents of change in our society.
