IT was a beauty pageant with a difference and it proved a sure-fire winner. The ‘Bros of Tralee’ was a resounding success for the Davitts GAA Club and attracted a fine gathering to the McWilliam Park Hotel in Claremorris.
Thirteen local gentlemen were transformed into relatively credible looking ‘ladies’ as the make-up girls managed to perform a few near miracles along the way! The end result was a hilarious night of great entertainment, ably supported by all the finalists and the excellent work of compere Ollie Turner from Galway Bay FM, who hails from just up the road in Milltown.
As the drama mounted before the announcement of the ‘Rose’, excitement was fever pitch in the ballroom.
The laurels went to Thomas Waldron (Tamara) who collected the coveted tiara and there were ‘emotional scenes’ when the result was made public. Thomas shaded the verdict in a tight finish with Ronan McNamara (Roseanne) and Lawrence Daly (Laura) being pipped for the award.
The other ten contestants were Gabriel Prendergast, Tommy Clarke, Lawrence Daly, Liam Kearns, Keith Prendergast, Padraig Moran, John Kean, Joe Ryan, David Mitchell and Luke Ronayne. Well done to all who took part and who added so much to the enjoyment of this special night.
The organising committee would also like to thank the generous sponsors of the event, the McWilliam Park Hotel, Michelle Rattigan from Irishtown, a superb musician who accompanied the singers, deejays Michael Burke and Eamon Kelly, as well as Billy Freeley and Noel Macken, the make-up girls (Sarah, Darina, Roisin and Rachel), the ticket sellers, everyone who attended and supported the venture, and, of course, Ollie Turner, who was simply the best even though he is no relation of Tina!
The proceeds from the night will go towards the building of the new clubhouse with work due to commence in the next few weeks.
