Though Roy Keane may have withdrawn his name for the race to be the new Celtic manager, supporters of the Glasgow giants in Mayo will have reason to be cheerful after Ryanair announced a new schedule of flights from Knock to the Scottish city.
The service from Ireland West Airport Knock was launched on Sunday with Ryanair unveiling a new three times weekly service to Glasgow Prestwick. This is the first connection between IWAK and Prestwick which is Glasgow’s second airport and is situated 32 miles from the city of Glasgow.
The flights will run on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
Welcoming the new service, Joe Gilmore, Managing Director, Ireland West Airport said it will have a positive impact on the region with thousand of Scottish visitors expected to the west of Ireland as a result.
“We are delighted that there is now a direct, quick and convenient jet flight service with Ryanair to Scotlands largest city, direct from Ireland West Airport Knock. This service will connect Glasgow and its surrounding regions including the Western Highlands, the Clyde Valley and the South of Scotland to the West and North West of Ireland; which share similar cultural and social heritage through the many Irish ex-patriots that have emigrated to the Scottish Isles in the past.
“This new service will be welcome news to all those visiting friends and family but will also have a positive impact on the region as a whole as we expect to welcome thousands of Scottish visitors on the new service as well as providing the opportunity to develop business links between the regions,” he said.
Maria Macken, Marketing Manager, Ryanair said they are delighted to welcome customers on board its new service from Ireland West Airport which will be one of 17 destinations where Ryanair fly out of Knock.
This summer, Glasgow will host the 2014 Commonwealth Games with over 4,000 athletes from all over the world taking part in the games which opens on August 3.
Glasgow, one of Europe’s most vibrant, dynamic and stylish cities, has been named the number one UK ‘Destination on the Rise’ by the world’s largest travel site, TripAdvisor, and they also named the city as the third best destination in the UK.
In an added boost for passengers using the new Glasgow service, passengers travelling on the route will be entitled to free rail travel to anywhere in Scotland when they arrive at Glasgow Prestwick Airport. To get your free travel tickets, produce your original flight confirmation (your booking confirmation with the airline logo) at the airport’s welcome desk where you’ll be issued with a free travel voucher to anywhere in Scotland.
