Vaughan Shoes set to open on Castlebar’s Main Street
Well-known south Mayo shoe shop Vaughan Shoes will open in Castlebar this Friday. They will take over the iconic corner-building on Main Street which was vacated by the closure of Hynes Shoes last March.
Vaughans currently have stores in Ballinrobe and Claremorris and company director Donal Vaughan, a well-known Mayo footballer, is extremely excited about the new venture and bringing their family business to Castlebar.
“It’s fantastic to be opening on Main Street, it has been hit hard during the recession but we see huge potential and are thrilled to be opening in such an landmark location,” he said.
Donal also acknowledged the co-operation of the Hynes family in the transition.
“The Hynes family have been extremely accommodating since coming into the space and Colm and his son Shane have been a great help in getting set up in the shop,” Donal said. “Everyone in the shoe industry has huge respect for the Hynes’s so it was very important for us to have their support. So many people remember getting their first pair of shoes in Hynes’s over the last 60 years or so and we’re hoping they’ll be doing the same in Vaughan Shoes in the future.”
Hynes Shoes closed last March after the family-run business decided to go into voluntary liquidation.
