Ballyglass Community Childcare Service has been announced as winner of the Best Community Crèche for the second year in a row at the Maternity and Infant Awards 2013.
Speaking to The Mayo News Senior Childcare Practitioner at the crèche Edel Nolan, said the staff and committee members of the crèche were ‘absolutely thrilled’.
“It’s great to win it and put Ballyglass on the map. I think it’s the first time a crèche has won the award two years in a row,” explained Ms Nolan.
The crèche, which opened in 1981 as a playschool based in the Community Centre in Ballyglass, now caters to five month old babies up as far as 12 year olds in their after school care service.
78 children are currently enrolled at the crèche between the normal and after school service
The adjudicators were impressed with both the physical and learning environments.
“Rooms are laid out in such a way that babies and children are encouraged and supported to become independent and competent learners. Children are supported by a staff team who are respectful and who get to know the children who are entrusted into their care intimately,” detailed the report.
The awards took place at the Four Seasons Hotel, Dublin on October 25 last and staff and the committee are holding a celebratory party at The Old Ground, Ballyglass, this Friday night.
