Drivers escape injury after crash outside McGreevy’s newsagents

A stolen jeep collided with a car driven by a local resident at the bottom of Bridge Street in Westport just after 7am this morning (Wednesday) in Westport. The local resident’s car was shunted into the front doors of well-known newsagents Don McGreevy’s. Miraculously, neither driver was seriously injured.
The black Honda jeep is believed to have been stolen in the Sheeaune area of Westport earlier this morning. However, the driver of the crashed jeep avoided arrest by fleeing the scene in another car, which was stolen in Ballina sometime this morning before 5am.
The local resident who was driving the other car involved in the collision was taken to hospital as a precaution, but he was not seriously injured.
The car in which the driver of the stolen jeep fled was stolen from the Foxford Road area of Ballina and has been identified as a black Volkswagen Passat with a registration number 07 MO 4363.
Gardaí in the area are now appealing to anyone with information on the stolen Passat to contact them at Ballina Garda Station on 096 21422.
Anyone with information on the Westport collision is asked to contact Gardaí in Westport on 098 50230.
