Launch of booklet written by families who experienced suicide
The launch took place recently of a booklet entitled ‘When someone you love dies by suicide … What Mayo families have to say’.
As the title suggests, the book is written by families who have experienced suicide.
Tommy Marren from Mid West Radio launched this booklet, which was produced through the Family Centre in Castlebar.
The booklet is unique in that it was written by individuals and families who themselves had experienced suicide of a loved one.
The booklet gives a summary of the experience of a wide range of families and covers topics such as what helped them in their grief and what didn’t help them.
“This booklet is not just likely to be really helpful to families affected by suicide but can help all in the community as to how to support families and individuals who have been affected by suicide,” said Tommy Marren at the launch.
“So often people don’t know what to say or do and this booklet is a great guide for people who want to be the best support they can to people who are experiencing one of the most tragic and difficult of all forms of grief,” he added.
Copies of the booklet and other information packs can be obtained by contacting the Family Centre, Chapel St, Castlebar on 094 90 25900 or emailing info@thefamilycentre.com.
The booklet is free of charge.
