BALLINROBE hairdresser Stacey McGreal will take the plunge this weekend and shave off her flowing locks for two worthy causes. Stacey, who works in Klassy Kuts in Ballinrobe, will shave her head for Hand in Hand, a children’s cancer charity.
Stacey made the decision to set out fundraising after she hearing that her 12-year-old cousin Ben was diagnosed with thyroid cancer last December.
“A month or two after I heard I decided to do it for the Hand in Hand cancer charity, who are based in Oranmore,” explained Stacey.
The Hand in Hand charity is a non-profit organisation that provides much-needed practical support to the families of children with cancer. The support includes child care, domestic cleaning services, laundry and meal delivery.
Stacey, who married in May of this year, says her husband Shane has been a great support. Indeed, it is he who will shave her head this Saturday night in Costello’s Bar, Ballinrobe.
“He’s grand about it, but if he bottles out of it there will be plenty of girls there to do it. He laughed when I told him first and then he said ‘Do it if you want to’.”
Along with raising €900 so far for Hand in Hand, Stacey also hopes to donate her 20-inch ponytail to The Little Princess Trust, a charity who provide wigs for children suffering hair loss.
On the night, Stacey hopes to section off ponytails of her hair and raffle them, allowing the highest bidder to do the honours.
The head shave will take place at 11pm this Saturday night at Costello’s Bar. Mayo band Ice on Fire will perform on the night, and a raffle will also be held. For more information search for Staceymcgreal Donations Donations Page on Facebook.
All support for the worthy causes involved will be much appreciated.
