Castlebar’s Noel Hoban raises funds for Family Centre

Well known Castlebar Iarnrod Eireann employee Noel Hoban has turned his talents to song writing and has recorded a four track CD for charity to raise funds for the Family Life Centre in Castlebar which provides counselling for suicide bereavement among many other facilities.
The CD was recorded at Frank McCaffrey’s Studios in Westport and Noel has said he is indebted to Frank for his help and patience with him in the venture over the last two months.
Over 523 people committed suicide in Ireland last year which basically represents ten per week. Noel wants to encourage people, especially men, to avail of the excellent facilities at the Castlebar centre under the stewardship of Cathal Kearney. He only became aware of the Castlebar Family Centre when he had to use the facilities himself over a major trauma in his own life.
“They have kept me alive and I want to do this for them”,  Noel commented at the launch night for the CD last weekend in the FΡilte Suite in the Welcome Inn Hotel, Castlebar. Noel performed the four songs from the CD and sang his own song ‘The Game’, which has been hailed by Frank McCaffrey as the best on the CD. The CD went on sale last weekend at local outlets for €5 and all monies will go directly to the Family Centre, Castlebar.
“Suicide is the hidden cancer in our society today and if my venture can save one life, it will be worth it. Everyone is welcome to support this most worthy cause which is killing more people than road traffic accidents.
“I am only an average singer but I do like to write. I’ve written poetry and short stories, but this is my first venture into song writing. It’s just me using my talents to say to Maire Ní Dhiomhnall and the Family Centre, thanks for saving my life.
