THE first period property to come up for sale in over a decade in county town, Castlebar, has a fascinating chronology of owners. Built in the 1890s, Lough Lannagh House is located at Mountain View and has a walled garden and beautifully landscaped gardens, situated on 0.6 acre site.
Ironically, it is the first property to be auctioned in the area for some time that is not the subject of a distressed sale, according to its selling agent, Tuohy O’Toole.
The auction will take place on June 22 at Bank Hall, Lough Lannagh Village.
With views of the town’s lake, Lough Lannagh House has three reception rooms, four bedrooms, a kitchen, cloakroom and bathroom. It also has a number of stone-built buildings in its walled yard.    
Built in 1890 by Castlebar solicitor and coroner, Patrick Kelly, a brother of the Chief Crown Solicitor for Ireland, Sir Malachy Kelly. Sadly, Patrick Kelly died in 1899 and the house was then lived in by his nephew, Michael Verdon, also a solicitor. Since the late 1950s it has been owned by the well-known Castlebar hoteliers, the Jennings family. The house is on the market due to the death of Mary B Jennings, a respected business woman.     
Peter Tuohy, of Tuohy O’Toole said: “I believe it is almost of 15 years  since a period property of this  quality came on the market within the heart of the town. The last such house our firm sold was Blackfort House and that was in the mid 1990s.”
