Speaking after her confirmation as Chair of the newly formed Policy Committee for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources by Taoiseach Enda Kenny, Deputy Michelle Mulherin (pictured)said she is looking forward to the challenge.
“There is massive scope for development in County Mayo in energy and communications which are absolutely fun-damental to our future economic growth. It is my hope that with the right national policies and prioritisation we can see this development become a reality.”
Deputy Mulherin was speaking as Mayo’s first Taoiseach met the British Prime Minister in London during the British-Irish Council discussions. The potential for Ireland developing mutually beneficial wind energy in the West of Ireland was reportedly an item which was due for exploration by Irish and British Ministers.
Deputy Mulherin served as Chair of the Planning and Economic Development Committee on Mayo County Council and said, “I am delighted to be appointed as Chair of this exciting portfolio which will feed into national policy. I look forward to working with Minister Pat Rabitte and Junior Minister Fergus O’Dowd in my new capacity.”
The appointment of Deputy Mulherin comes a few days after it was announced she had been appointed to another committee on investigations, oversight and petitions. Her party colleague Deputy John O’Mahony has been appointed to the committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture. Fianna FΡil Justice Spokesperson Dara Calleary was appointed to the committee on justice, defence and equality.
