WESTPORT United have appointed a new management team following a committee meeting on Tuesday night.
Kieran Mulchrone, James Fahy and Alan McLoughlin – who have been in charge on a caretaker basis since Barry Kilgannon’s departure – will be remaining in situ, club chairman Frank Gillivan told The Mayo News on Wednesday morning.
Mulchrone was assistant manager to Kilgannon before the Ballina man stepped down. Fahy has managed the Westport United B team and enjoyed success with the Under-18 team last year. McLoughlin is a former player who’s a fully-qualified coach.
“We were delighted with the response and the quality of candidates,” said Gillivan. “We got quite a few enquiries from outside the town of high calibre. But training is going well, results are going well, the players are happy and the lads have a good rapport with them, so we’ve decided to give them a lash. They’re all qualified coaches and we felt we should give our own people a chance.”
Mulchrone, Fahy and McLoughlin will be in the dugout for Sunday’s Elverys Sports Super League match away to Ballinrobe Town.
