AN Achill man has been released on bail after he appeared before a sitting of Dublin District Court this morning (Thursday) after being charged with criminal damage following the ‘concrete gate’ protest at the gates of Leinster House yesterday morning.
Joe McNamara (41), who is originally from Achill, was arrested yesterday morning after a concrete mixer truck with the words ‘Toxic Bank Anglo’ on its drum was driven up to the gates of Leinster House. A billboard saying ‘all politicians should be sacked’ was also attached to the truck on the day the DΡil returned following the summer recess.
Following his arrest, Mr McNamara was brought to Pearse Street Garda station where he was detained overnight to appear before the sitting of Dublin District Court. He was remanded on bail to November 25 on condition he does not come to the unlawful attention of gardaí during that time. An application by gardaí that he be ordered to stay away from Anglo Irish Bank on St Stephen's Green in Dublin was not included in bail the conditions.
