JOB losses may yet be avoided at Northern Feather, a longtime Westport factory, despite the fact its parent company has gone into administration.
“This news is unfortunate for Westport as keeping people in work is a major priority,” David Coakley, a Director of Northern Feather, which is sitiuted off the Newport Road, told The Mayo News yesterday.
He confirmed that a receiver was appointed to Slumberdown International Ltd, which rents a warehouse on the Northern Feather site at the Demesne.
Based in Hawick, Scotland, the company is a major supplier of duvets and pillows to the Irish and UK markets.  It employs 12 people at its Westport subsidiary, 84 at Hawick and a further 50 employees are employed at Blyth, England.
A statement on behalf of the Coakley family said: “It is believed that operations for Slumberdown will continue in Westport as normal until the outcome of its parent company Slumberdown Enterprises is known.”
