Counting begins in the Mayo constituency for 2024 General Election

First 50 ballot boxes were opened at 9am in the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar

Counting underway in the TF Royal Theatre in Mayo constituency

Counting has begun in the Mayo constituency in the 2024 General Election with five seats up for grabs.

The first of 231 boxes in the Mayo constituency were opened in the count centre TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar at 9am. The 40 boxes from the Ballina Electoral Area were the first to be opened along with ten of the 47 boxes from the Castlebar Electoral Area. They will be followed by 30 boxes from the Westport Electoral Area, 37 from Belmullet Electoral Area, 45 from Claremorris Electoral Area and the 30 boxes from Swinford Electoral Area.

It is expected that all boxes will be opened and tallied by lunctime.

There are 16 candidates on the ballot box with five seats are up for grabs in the Mayo constituency. Sitting TDs, Alan Dillon (FG), Dara Calleary (FF) and Rose Conway-Walsh (SF) are all fighting to retain their seats.
