The 16 Mayo candidates: Profiles on all General Election contestants

Dara Calleary (Fianna Fáil)

OCCUPATION: Public Representative
ELECTION CHANCES: Calleary has been a TD for Mayo since 2007 but he endured his most turbulent spell in the Dáil during his last term of office, when the Covid 'Golfgate' saga threatened to end his political career. Some felt his resignation as Minister for Agriculutre after the controversy was somewhat pre-mature but Calleary himself admitted his mistake, and was rewarded by returning as junior minister in 2022. He faces a fresh challenge from Mark Duffy in Ballina but he looks almost certain to be returned to Dáil Éireann for a fifth-term in a row.
