Former Mayo player set to become manager of Dublin giants

It has been reported today (February 10) that former Mayo midfielder Séamus O’Shea is set to become the manager of Dublin club, Ballymun Kickhams.

The Breaffy native has been based in the capital for numerous years now and it’s understood O’Shea has been involved in the club for some years.

During a spell between 2010 and 2020 where Mayo had some close battles with Dublin, including many Ballymun players, O’Shea starred for Mayo as he played in the midfield position, many times with his brother Aidan as his midfield partner.

In recent years, Dean Rock, James McCarthy, John Small, Philly McMahon have all represented the North Dublin side while also being part of the Dublin side that claimed six All Ireland titles in a row. Now, the Mayo man will be managing some of Ballymun's finest. On the current Dublin panel, Evan Comerford and Paddy Small represent the county while the pair are prominent members in the Ballymun club.

Last season, Ballymun were knocked out of the Dublin Senior Championship at the quarter final stage as Na Fianna progressed. The Kickhams last tasted silverware in 2020 when they conquered Dublin by beating Ballyboden St Enda’s in the final.
