History was made at the GAA Rounders AGM over the weekend, as a Mayo woman was elected as the first-ever female President of the organisation.
Paula Doherty is renowned as a first-rate advocate of the sport of rounders both in Mayo and beyond.
Just this year, she was taking to the turf in Abbotstown to pick up Celtic Crosses in the Women's and Mixed All-Ireland finals with her beloved Breaffy.
Her performance at third base have also seen her receive an All-Star in three of the last four seasons.
Doherty will succeed Iain Cheyne as the sport's figurehead after he decided to step away from the role two years into his three-year term.
Limerick man Michael Sheahan, who is currently serving as the Munster representative, was the second candidate in the role.
As a consequence, the talented player will be hanging up the boots and taking a step back from her position on the Breaffy board.
The decision will be a massive loss for the All-Ireland champions. However, Breaffy's loss is certainly the sport's gain, and history beckons for one of the club's leading lights.
Former President Michael Dowling will be serving as the Vice-President for the duration of the term.
