Mayo GAA have confirmed that they are considering bringing a professional body in to help with the appointment of the organisation’s CEO. However, details of the recruitment process have not yet been finalised.
The intention of the Executive to appoint an experienced CEO on a four-year contract to spearhead the operations of the county going forward has generated plenty of interest since last Friday.
Now, following on from the invitation for applicants, more details have emerged on the finer details of the recruitment process and the finances of the role.
Mayo GAA Chairman, Seamus Tuohy, described the appointment as a ‘game-changer’ in conversation with The Mayo News.
“It's a game changer for Mayo GAA,” he stated. “It's there to support the clubs, to support the board. As we all know, it's not sustainable depending on the volunteer to support the demands of the present County Board.”
The invitation for applicants stated that the recruitment process would be managed by a Strategic Leadership Committee ‘who will oversee a fair, confidential, and transparent selection process.’
The five members of the committee will be the Chairman (Seamus Tuohy), the Secretary (Ronan Kirrane), the Treasurer (Valerie Murphy), Cultural Officer Daithí Gallagher, and the South Board Chairman, Donal Walsh.
When asked if the assistance of a professional body would be sought, Tuohy responded by saying the Executive would be “considering that.”
“We have our first meeting on Thursday night with regards to agreeing the terms of reference and the strategic process going forward,” said Tuohy.
“We'll make a decision on that on Thursday night. All avenues are open. The priority for us is to get the best person for the job.”
The chair also stated that it is the hope of the Mayo GAA Executive that the role would be self-financing within nine to 12 months.
After being asked what part Croke Park will play in the recruitment process, Tuohy stated that ‘it’ll be very much be an appointment by Mayo GAA’, but that the Committee would have the support of Croke Park.
