Anthony Jordan had a good impact off the bench as he kicked two points in Moy Davitts' win over Ballinrobe.
MAYO INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER FINAL
Moy Davitts 2-14
Ballinrobe 1-14
In Foxford
On a windy and cold afternoon in Foxford, Paul Mc Garry’s Moy Davitts side booked their spot in the final four of the Intermediate Championship.
With a difficult crosswind present, Moy Davitts started best with Ronan Clarke, Brian Heneghan and Briane Reape impressing early on. With ten minutes played, it was Reape who had the ball in the net after he blasted home with an emphatic finish.
A humorous moment occurred when Ballinrobe’s Liam Burke slid down the line as he attempted to keep the ball in but Burke wiped out the Moy Davitts manager Paul Mc Garry which he and the Moy Davitts' management team failed to see the funny side of things.
It was Sean Kelly who secured the homeside’s second goal after he finished off an excellent team move. Seconds later, Liam Burke replied with a well taken goal as he led the way for the South Mayo men.
As the half time whistle sounded, Moy Davitts led 2-8 to Ballinrobe’s 1-7.
As the wind died down, Conor O'Brien exchanged scores with Ronan Clarke but the hosts seemed to up it when Ryan Kenny and Clarke kicked two pointers. However Evan O’Brien replied instantly with an orange flag for the robesiders.
Ballinrobe Goalkeeper Luke Jennings kicked an outstanding two pointer which sailed over like a rocket, that left just one between the sides with seven minutes to go. The experienced Anthony Jordan entered the heat of the battle and kicked two fine points which were followed up by a calm taken score from Brian Reape.
Entering injury time, trailing by four, Liam Burke saw red for a strike and as time ticked by. Moy Davitts maintained possession although Andrew Crowley reduced the gap to just three but time was against Ballinrobe.
Moy Davitts will now face Ardnaree while it’s the end of the campaign for Ballinrobe.
A full match report will be carried in Tuesday’s edition of The Mayo News.
