There has been plenty of discussion and debate in the aftermath of the controversial draw between Hollymount-Carramore and Kilmaine in the Mayo Intermediate Football Championship.
Both clubs and the wider GAA community are anxiously awaiting the outcome of the appeal from Hollymount-Carramore, which was submitted on Monday. The club have appealed the result of Friday night's game and state that they should be awarded a one-point win.
Countless column inches and reams of discussion have been devoted to the decision to award a two-pointer to Kilmaine when Kevin Mullin kicked a score in the closing stages of the first half. Two points were recorded when the ball flew between the sticks despite Mayo GAA TV pictures suggesting the kick was taken inside the two-point scoring arc.
The Mayo News understands that legal advice has been sought on the matter by Hollymount-Carramore.
Here, we'll go through three of the potential outcomes as Mayo GAA weigh up their decision before reaching a verdict.
The first potential option is that Mayo GAA decide to order a replay of last Friday's clash. However, this decision will need to be made quickly, as the quarter-final between Kilmaine and Kilmeena is set for Saturday, September 20, at 3pm. It remains to be seen if this option is open to Mayo GAA.
Another option is to decide that the result on the day stands as recorded in the referee's report. This would see Kilmaine retain their place in the last eight and Hollymount-Carramore eliminated.
The final option available for the County Board is to downgrade Kevin Mullin's two-pointer to a single point which would leave Hollymount-Carramore with a one-point win. That result would see Hollymount-Carramore into the quarter-finals and Kilmaine eliminated.
A decision is expected from Mayo GAA in due course.
