BREAFFY was buzzing on Friday night as the home side hosted Castlebar Mitchels in the senior championship. The meeting between the neighbouring clubs had spectators from across the county and further afield crowd the sidelines, and afterwards Aidan O'Shea encouraged supporters to pack into grounds all weekend to see top-class club football.

"This was a great occasion here tonight, but I thought there would be more here to be honest. I'm not sure what people are doing on a Friday night. Club football is alive and well and there are massive games across Mayo this weekend. I'd encourage people to get out. There are some great games coming up over the weekend. You've got Knockmore and Westport, and Ballina Stephenites and Crossmolina this weekend as well, so there should be massive crowds at games everywhere.

"It was great to be part of this tonight. Unfortunately, we didn't come out on the right side of it," he added after the game ended in a 0-12 apiece draw. "On a personal level, I had two chances coming down the stretch to maybe sway the result and didn't take them, so I'm disappointed. I had a goal chance and went to go with my right foot, but cut back on my left and some fella got a hand on me and the chance was gone. It's a split-second thing, but I should have scored.

"The result means we're still in the running, but we have to put in a massive performance the next day. Belmullet are the form team in this group and we have to get ready for them."
