FORMER Mayo footballer Austin O'Malley has stepped down as club manager of All-Ireland senior champions Cuala. Just weeks after guiding the Dublin club to the national title, the Louisburgh native informed the club that he had decided not to renew his three-year appointment because of family and business commitments.

O'Malley was at the helm as Cuala carved their place in history last season as they won their maiden, Dublin, Leinster and All-Ireland titles. He took over the club in 2022 just after their promotion to senior A and reached the Dublin quarter-finals in his first two years. Last season Cuala won the club’s first county senior football title when defeating Kilmacud Crokes in a thrilling final in Parnell Park. They went on to defeat St Mary's Ardee in the provincial final before getting the better of Tyrone and Ulster champions Errigal Ciaran in last month's national decider.

As a player he won the Dublin title in 2006 with UCD and also played with St Patrick's in Wicklow before returning to Louisburgh with whom he won Mayo and Connacht Junior titles in 2016.

In more recent years he has established Hexagon Performance, a very successful education, training and performance coaching company.
