NEWLY-appointed Mayo ladies captain Danielle Caldwell has been named to make her first competitive start for Mayo against Meath this afternoon.

Mayo ladies manager Liam McHale has made just one change to the Mayo ladies team to face the Royals, with Caldwell coming into the starting team in place of Milly Sheridan, who started their opening league defeat to Dublin.

Caldwell’s return marks a big boost for Liam McHale’s charges, who travel to Navan in search of their first league win of the season.

The two-time All-Star had been due to start against Dublin but withdrew shortly before throw-in after picking up a knock in the warm-up. Her Castlebar Mitchels teammate and former Mayo captain, Kathryn Sullivan, told The Mayo News after the game that Caldwell was expected to be fit to face Meath in the following round.

Liam McHale has handed another start to new goalkeeper Róisín Dyar, who made her senior debut against Dublin. Sinéad Walsh, who put 1-5 past the Jackies, retains her berth in the full-forward line alongside Ciara Whyte and Maria Cannon.

Meath, who put 4-4 past Tyrone in their opening-round victory, have named an unchanged side. The Royals are still without their star forward Emma Duggan, who gave a stellar performance against Mayo the last time the two sides met.

Today’s meeting of Mayo and Meath will be broadcast live on TG4.
