Mayo Intermediate Quarter-final

Ballinrobe 1-14 Ardnaree Sarsfields 0-10

In Ballinrobe

BALLINROBE produced a solid 60-minute display to see off Ardnaree Sarsfields without any major stress in their home championship quarter-final this evening.

Ewan Duffy, Kevin Quinn and Evan O’Brien kicked all but one of the scores for the winning side. Joe Burke’s 18th-minute goal also made a big difference in putting Peter Ford’s men just one game away from back-to-back Intermediate county final appearances.

The teams played out an even opening quarter and were level twice before Joe Burke got on the end of a diagonal ball and finished past Blaine Ginty.

Ardnaree replied positively with four unanswered points from Johnathan Doherty, Seaghan Duffy (2) and Adam Parsons to make it 1-4 0-7 at the break.

Ballinrobe enjoyed much more control in the second half and struck eight points as they held their guests scoreless in the third quarter.

Ardnaree then struck their only three points of the second half but Ballinrobe finished with two from Ewan Duffy and Kevin Quinn to secure their place in the semi-finals with little fuss.

A full report plus reaction from Ballinrobe’s Liam Burke will be carried in Tuesday’s Mayo News.
