Another stellar showing from Adam Rehill wasn’t enough to see Burrishoole fall short of the Intermediate quarter-finals as points difference saw Ardnaree Sarsfields into the knockout stages this afternoon.

Burrishoole put in an excellent display, but were left to rue two missed frees in the last few minutes that, had either of them gone over, would have put them into the last eight.

In the end, Ardnaree found the wherewithal to snatch a draw in sizzling heat by the banks of the Moy.

The teams were level nine times in total in a game which rocked and rolled from start to finish.

Adam Rehill was a class apart at times, finishing with 1-7 to his name.

John Timlin, who got the only other goal of the first half, was a constant influence for Ardnaree.

And thanks to good shooting from Timlin, Doherty and Seaghan Duffy, the Moysiders led 1-7 0-8 at half-time.

But Burrishoole kept battling and took a three-point lead in the 45th minute when Adam Rehill finished a penalty won by Eoghan Wright.

Timlin and Doherty continued to deliver and kicked four vital scores in the last ten minutes before the tireless Alan Ryder struck the leveller for Burrishoole in injury time.

A draw was a fair result, but only a win would have gotten Burrishoole out of the group. They finish third while Ardnaree face an away quarter-final after finishing second

A full report, plus reaction from Ardnaree’s Seaghan Duffy, will be carried in Tuesday’s Mayo News Sport.
