Louisburgh's Dylan Prendergast in action against Crossmolina last year
Mayo Senior Football Championship
Louisburgh 2-12
Lahardane 0-13
In Louisburgh
The famous saying ‘Goals win games’ was certainly true on Sunday afternoon as Ed Ball’s pair of goals put Louisburgh into contention for a quarter-final spot.
Ball got the first of those goals early on after a good finish following a great ball in from man of the match Dylan Prendergast.
Eddie Conroy’s Lahardane battled well as sharpshooter Shane Finnerty kicked seven points over the hour, with four coming from placed balls. Louisburgh failed to fire in the first half as the underdogs impressed enough to lead 0-8 1-3 at the break.
Scores from Prendergast and wing-forward, Mark Gibbons (2) made sure the Clew Bay men regained the lead.
However, in the 45th minute, Louisburgh corner-back Alfie Morrison received a black card and Lahardane’s main man, Finnerty, tagged on vital points as they pursued a famous victory.
The excellent Dylan Prendergast then produced the score of the day from long range. Minutes later he delivered yet another splendid long ball into Ed Ball, who calmly rolled it into the net. The visitors from the shadow of Nephin battled well, but ultimately came up short and remain winless from two championship games.
