Mayo Intermediate Football Championship
Crossmolina 2-17
Moy Davitts 5-13
In Crossmolina
THE most extraordinary game of football the Intermediate Football Championship has produced this year was decided by a five-goal second-half blitz, reaffirming Moy Davitts' status as championship favourites.
Goals from Cathal Clarke, Conor Reid, Cian McHale and two from Seán Kelly saw Crossmolina swept aside just as it looked like Brian Benson’s men were ready to sail home.
The hosts were the better team in the first half. Five of their six starting forwards scored and clicked impressively as a unit, culminating in a cleverly worked goal by Diarmuid Walsh.
Fionán Duffy, James Maheady and Patrick Leddy were all flying for Cross’ in a first half where Moy Davitts failed to show their best.
The visitors were dealt an early blow when Fionán Duffy stuck the ball in the net to make it 2-12 to 0-9 in the 33rd minute.
Over the next fifteen minutes, Moy Davitts struck five goals past their opponents, who were left punch-drunk by their guests’ overwhelming firepower.
A fracas broke out towards the end between both sets of players, but it made little difference no difference to the result and Moy Davitts were crowned deserving winners.
