THE Mayo ladies football championships will be run almost weekly after the club championship draw threw up several intriguing encounters.
All three rounds of group games will be run between September 8 and September 22, with two teams qualifying from each of the two groups of four in each championship. The semi-finals will take place the following Sunday on September 29.
There will then be a week of a break before the junior B, junior, intermediate and senior finals all take place on the weekend of October 12/13.
Perhaps the most intriguing of the two championship groups is group A, which sees three of last year’s senior county semi-finalists; Westport A, Carnacon and Kilmovee Shamrocks, drawn against Hollymount.
Senior county champions Knockmore will be the favourites to qualify from their group, which includes 2022 senior champions, Burrishoole, reigning Mayo intermediate champions MacHale Rovers and 2022 Connacht intermediate champions Charlestown.
Meanwhile, 2022 All-Ireland intermediate finalists Castlebar Mitchels are back in the second tier of Mayo club football, where they will face Swinford-Killasser, Kilmoremoy and reigning Connacht junior champions Claremorris.
The other group sees 2023 county finalists Moy Davitts drawn against Louisburgh, Ballyhaunis and Davitts.
St Brigids, who were heavily defeated by Claremorris in last year’s county junior final, will face Westport B, Aghamore and The Neale in their group while Breaffy, Cill Chomáin, Kilmeena and Parke/Keelogues/Crimlin will lock horns in the second group.
Twelve teams in total will contest the junior B championship, which will consist of three groups of four. The top two teams will qualify for the cup while the bottom two teams will contest the respective shield competitions.
