West Mayo Minor A Final
Parke/Keelogues/Crimlin 2-12
Castlebar Mitchels 2-9
In Clogher
AN inspired fourth quarter saw Parke snatch the West Mayo title against a Castlebar Mitchels team with several current and former Mayo Minors in their ranks.
Two Parke goals in a minute were enough to overturn a three-point deficit just when Mitchels seemed set to cruise to victory in the home of Ballintubber GAA. In the end, it was a hungry Parke side that took the silverware on an evening where Dara Neary and Colm Lynch shot 1-11 between them.
Despite missing injured Mayo Minor Evan Walsh, Parke held their own in a rigid opening quarter where Mitchels had plenty of ball but could only muster three points in the opening 20 minutes.
Parke snuffed out their best players and eventually found themselves 0-6 0-3 after 25 minutes.
Mitchels hit back and the scores were left at 0-7 in Parke's favour at half-time - but the best was yet to come from both teams.
The town side hit the afterburners with two superb goals, the first coming from Harry McHale and the second from Davey McManamon.
With 44 minutes gone, it looked like Mitchels would have enough to see this one out and add yet another chalice to their bulging trophy cabinet.
But a black and amber tide began to wash over them from once Dara Neary raised his fist after driving home the penalty won by Dylan Carroll.
The net was still shaking from Neary's shot when he set up wing-back Paul Hurst for a brilliant follow-up goal that put the rural club in the ascendency.
Castlebar Mitchels made it a one-point game with efforts from Cian Walsh, but these were cancelled out by Dara Neary in the dying minutes before Parke rejoiced in the glow of a West Mayo title they will savour for a long time to come.
A full report plus reaction from the Parke camp will be carried in Tuesday's Mayo News Sport.
