Eoghan McLaughlin
One of his best games for Mayo in quite some time.
The Westport speedster is a man born for the hot day and the dry sod, and he proved it with a superb display in Dr Hyde Park, where his pace, athleticism and direct running were allowed to truly blossom.
He kicked three points - two in the first half, one in the second - and was given a rousing reception from the 4,000-odd Mayo fans that made their second trip to Roscommon in six weeks.
We wondered what we’d do without Paddy Durcan’s leadership and scoring power. We got our answer from Eoghan McLaughlin.
Jordan Flynn
The big man from Crossmolina is arguably one of Mayo’s best all-rounders.
He can field, kick, tackle hard, run direct and take the game by the scruff of the neck when the chips are down.
Flynn showed against Roscommon that he can influence the game as much from wing-forward as he can at midfield.
Where exactly he’ll line out against Dublin will be interesting to see.
Darren McHale
McHale’s eye-catching display against a tepid Cavan was no flash-in-the-pan.
Roscommon were always going to provide a much sterner and the Knockmore man aced it in the heat of Dr Hyde Park.
He kicked two superb scores, linked the play well throughout and gave the Roscommong defence something to think about all evening with his unpredictable jinking and jiving.
Fergal Boland would appear to have lost his long sought-after place in the Mayo starting 15, based on this performance from McHale.
