Mayo Senior League Division 1A

Breaffy 4-10 Ballinrobe 2-8

In Breaffy

A nearly full-strength Breaffy were deserving winners over Ballinrobe this afternoon on a day when two goals from Mayo star Aidan O’Shea propelled the hosts to victory.

A goal in either half from the county man helped Breaffy to a nine-point win in a game where their lead never looked in jeopardy.

O’Shea caused plenty of hassle at full-forward, but so too did corner forward Pearse Deane, who hit 1-4 in a very impressive display.

Goals from Dean and O’Shea helped Breaffy to a 2-7 to 0-5 half-time lead.

Ballinrobe then got the second half off to a great start when Eoin Corcorcan found the net after  the hosts were turned over near the goal.

A goal from county panellist Kevin Quinn put Ballinrobe back within three points, but Breaffy quickly bounced back, with O’Shea dancing passed their defence for his second goal at the end of the third quarter.

The red-carding of his younger brother, Conor, made little enough difference as Deane teed up corner-back Conor Beirne to palm in Breaffy’s fourth goal to leave them home and hosted heading into the final ten minutes.
