An All-Ireland camogie title was snatched ruthlessly from Mayo’s reach by a second half-surge from the newly-crowned All-Ireland Minor C champions.

A flurry of 3-5 in ten devastating minutes of camogie heralded the end of a remarkable journey for the Mayo Minors in Drumlane, Co Cavan, this afternoon.

Unbeaten in the 2024 championship until today, Brendan Tunney’s girls put in a fine display in the first half, which finished 0-7 0-6 in their favour.

Take away the third quarter, and this was a fine all-round performance from Mayo, who had impressive performers all over the field and gave the Tyrone defence lots to think about.

However, the power, pace and skill that Hannah Hauttman and her colleagues brought to the table could not overturn the results of the third quarter.

Hauttman had just put Mayo three points ahead with the third of her six points when Tyrone cut loose with the wind behind them.

Goals from Claire McAleer, Rhianna McLaughlin and Gemma Daly saw an Emer Cunningham-inspired Tyrone soar into the lead.

To their credit, Mayo picked themselves up with Hauttman clawing back two points before the green and red ended the game with a roar after an excellent goal from Laura Flanagan.

A full report, plus reaction from the Mayo camp, will be carried in Tuesday’s Mayo News.
