MAYO footballer Padraig O’Hora has echoed calls from Kevin McStay for Mayo supporters to turn out in force for their upcoming Connacht final meeting with Galway.
Describing Mayo supporters as ‘the best in the country’, O’Hora said that he is ‘looking forward to seeing the green and red pouring into Galway on the Bank Holiday weekend’.
“We always do it anyway. We seen the amount of people that were abroad in New York. I seen it all my playing career, the Mayo people are the best in the country for getting out and out behind the team,” the Ballina native said at the launch of Supervalu’s ‘Community Includes Everyone’ campaign.
“We value that more than anything. We’re just looking forward to hearing the roar in Galway.”
Mayo manager, Kevin McStay, recently described Mayo fans as ‘subdued’ during their Connacht semi-final win over Roscommon and called for a show of support against Galway in Salthill.
When his comments were put to O’Hora by The Mayo News, the Ballina Stephenites footballer said he ‘didn’t pass any heed’ on the noise levels during the game.
O’Hora replaced Jack Coyne in the 66th minute of Mayo’s 1-15 0-13 win over Roscommon last Sunday.
“Not that I didn’t notice, I didn’t pass any head on it really to be honest. I don’t think there were any major moments in the game that drummed up that level of excitement,” said O’Hora.
“We kind of led for the whole game I don’t know did it every get to that boiling point where you get the big noise, the atmosphere crashing through, but I think what Kevin was actually saying and I’d say the exact same, was that the Mayo fans bring the noise. They do bring that and they are the wind in your sails a lot of the time.
“What we’re really hoping, they’ll come out, they’ll be themselves, they’ll be big and loud come the fifth of next month,” O’Hora continued.
“I think that’s kind of what he was trying to say that they’ll come out, that they’ll be themselves, that they’ll be big and loud come the fifth of next month. That’s kind of what he was trying to say.”
Mayo will play Galway in the Connacht Senior Football Championship Final in Pearse Stadium, Salthill, at 4pm on May 5.
A full interview with Mayo footballer Padraig O’Hora will be carried in Tuesday’s Mayo News.
