Hastings MacHale Park in Castlebar will host this year's Connacht Senior Final
The Connacht senior football final will take place in Castlebar on Sunday, May 7. The news is a great boost for the Mayo capital with up to 20,000 supporters to flock into the town for the day.
Connacht GAA made the announcement this afternoon and also stated that game will be preceded by the Connacht senior ladies final between Galway and Mayo.
The men's final will be much-anticipated with either New York or Sligo facing Galway or Roscommon. The participants will be decided this weekend with Sligo hosting New York on Saturday in Markievicz Park at 2.30pm before Roscommon welcome Galway to Hyde Park at 4pm on Sunday. The winners will advance to the Castlebar decider two weeks later which has a 1.45pm throw-in time.
Earlier in the day, the Ladies final will pit age-old rivals Mayo and Galway against one another. Both sides will come into the game after mixed league performances. Mayo needed a win in Donegal on the last day of the round-robin format to guarantee survival in Division 1 while Galway qualified impressively for the league final before losing heavily to Kerry in the decider.
The fact that there was only a single point between the two Connacht teams when they clashed in the sixth round of the league in March sets up the provincial decider very nicely indeed.
