Mayo community pays tributes to 'true character' upon tragic passing

The death took place last week at her residence of Geraldine (Ronnie) O’Leary (nee Mellett), The Cottage, Frenchgrove, Mayo, Hollymount, formerly of Cullenagh, Killmeaden, Co Waterford.

Ronnie was highly thought of by all who knew her and was a good and kind neighbour with a generous heart and a smile for all.

Trisha Cummins, Garrymore, extending condolences to the family, said Ronnie was a true lady. “We had many a good day in Frenchgrove, and she was always great craic with stories and jokes. She will be missed by all.”

Josephine Sheridan, Ballindine, said Ronnie was a true character and a great lady who was always in good form.

From down south in Waterford, Frances Whelan from Kill, reflected: “I worked with Ronnie at Quinlan’s poultry farm on the old Kilmeaden Road, Waterford. She was a lovely lady and taught me a lot. I am so sorry to hear of her passing.”

Reposing was at Roundfort Community Funeral with private removal to her home. Interment took place in Ballinrobe New Cemetery following Requiem Mass in Carras Church.

Ronnie, who was predeceased by her husband William (Bill), parents Thomas and Geraldine Mellett, and her brothers Cecil,  Billy, Pat and Dermot, will be sadly missed her son Thomas, daughter-in-law Ethna, granddaughter Hollie, step-grandchildren, sister Jackie Moran (USA), brother Don Mellett (Ballinrobe), sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.
