Tributes have poured in for a young man from Mayo who sadly died unexpectedly leaving his family and community devastated.

Matthew Vahey was from Claremorris in Mayo and sadly died on Sunday, July 6.

Matthew will be deeply missed by his heartbroken parents John and Susan, his brothers Jack, James, Simon and Adam, his loyal canine companion Freddie, aunts, uncles, cousins and a wide circle of many friends.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:

Reposing at his home (F12 XK18) on Wednesday evening, July 9, from 5pm until 7pm, removal from his residence on Thursday to arrive at St Colman’s Church for funeral Mass at 12 noon, followed by a committal service at Shannon Crematorium at 3pm.

Heartfelt messages have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and loved Matthew, with one mourner writing,

"Deepest sympathy to Susan, John, Jack, James, Simon and Adam and all the extended Vahey and Lally families on the very sad passing of Matthew. A devastating loss for you all. May his gentle soul rest in peace."

Another message said: "To Matthew’s parents, siblings, family, and friends, on behalf of all of us, we want to express our heartfelt condolences on the loss of Matthew. He was a gentle, kind, and funny soul—someone whose warmth, good humour, and genuine nature brought light to those around him. Matthew will be deeply missed by all of us here in Galway. Our thoughts are with you during this incredibly difficult time. Please know that we are keeping Matthew and all of you in our hearts."

Another tribute said: "Sincere condolences to John, Susan, Simon, Adam, Jack, James, Becky and to all of Matthew's brilliant friends at this heartbreaking time. A pure gentleman. Matthew you will be truly missed. May you rest in peace".

Another person said: "We are so sorry to hear of the untimely passing of Matthew, our thoughts and prayers are with John and Susan, Jack, James, Simon and Adam and extended family, Rest in Peace Matthew".
