The Margaret Burke Sheridan Trail is set to be an exciting evening this coming September, 19.
Castlebar is set to host a commemorative event to celebrate the global success of Mayo born performer Margaret Burke Sheridan on Friday September 19, in a town-wide trail. The Margaret Burke Sheridan Trail hopes to bring a vibrant evening of music, storytelling, exhibitions, and live performances celebrating the Castlebar-born international opera performer.
Margaret Burke Sheridan (1889–1958), widely known as “La Sheridan”, was one of Ireland’s first great international opera stars and a world renowned interpreter of Puccini. Making her operatic debut in Italy, where she became known for her powerful interpretations of Puccini’s heroines and Margaret won her worldwide recognition in Irish Opera houses.
Fiona Neary, Co-director of The Linenhall expressed her delight for the upcoming town-wide trail: “We are delighted that with the support of Culture Night Late, we can bring these events to the very heart of our town.”
All events are free of charge and no booking is required. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis.
