Mayo Gardaí are at the scene of a two-vehicle collision in Achill

Mayo emergency services are at the scene of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the R319 road to Achill Island at Tonragee.

The two-vehicle collision occurred close to Tonragee National School shortly after 2pm this afternoon which resulted in one of the vehicles ending on its side.

The emergency services including An Garda Siochána, the ambulance service and the local fire brigade were called to the scene to assist the occupants of the car. It is understood that none of the occupants suffered major injuries in the collision.

Motorists along the R319 to Achill Island are asked to experience short delays while the emergency services deal with the collision scene.

Meanwhile Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a man was killed in a road crash near Ballyhaunis late on Monday night.

A man in his 50s was killed in a single-vehicle collision occurred on the R323, Knock Road, at Bracklaghboy, Ballyhaunis at around 10.10pm. He was pronounced deceased at the scene and his body has been removed to the mortuary at Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar where a post-mortem examination was due to take place.

Investigating gardaí are appealing for witnesses to this incident to come forward. Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were travelling in the area between 9.30pm and 10.30pm are asked to make this footage available.
